Vienna Doctoral College on Digital Humanism

Shaping a Responsible Digital Future

The Vienna Doctoral College on Digital Humanism (DigHum) is an interdisciplinary doctoral training programme dedicated to critically examining and shaping the digital transformation of society.

Launched in October 2024, it is a joint initiative by TU Wien, the University of Vienna, and WU Wien, supported by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) and the City of Vienna.

Our Mission

Digital technologies profoundly influence every aspect of our lives, from communication and governance to education and the economy. The DigHum Doctoral College is committed to ensuring that these technologies are developed and implemented in ways that uphold human values, democratic principles, and social responsibility.

To that end, the Doctoral College brings together outstanding doctoral candidates and leading researchers to address the societal challenges of digital transformation through the lens of human values.

By fostering interdisciplinary research that bridges computer science, social sciences, and humanities, we aim to cultivate a new generation of scholars equipped to understand, navigate and positively influence the complex interplay between technology and society.

They will not only be experts in their individual disciplines, but will be able to work across disciplinary boundaries to critically engage with questions of ethics, democracy, sustainability, and technological change.
